Apples are one of the most valuable fruit crops in the United States and are grown in 32 US states! Apples contain 0 grams of fat or sodium, have no cholesterol and are an excellent source of fiber, and for good reason are the most consumed fruit in the US! The US is the second largest apple producer worldwide, with 7,500 apple producers who grow, on average, 240 million bushels of apples each year. These producers grow the apples on 322,000 acres of land. Apple trees take 4-5 years to produce their first fruit and a standard size apple tree starts bearing fruit 8-10 years after it is planted. A dwarf tree starts bearing fruit in 3-5 years. Apple farmers are committed to long-term preservation of our land and many use integrated pest management techniques to improve their crops and the quality of their soil.

There are more than 2,500 varieties of apples grown in the United States, and they come in all shades of red, green and yellow, making a beautiful fall landscape to enjoy (& eat!)
