The essential oil of peppermint is used widely as flavor agent in soft drinks, ice creams, toothpastes, tobacco products and more!   Peppermint essential oil is also widely used in the Pharmaceutical and Personal Health Care industries. Peppermint leaves are added as fresh in cocktails and various dishes. Peppermint tea has also become very popular during the last two decades, due to its digestive, antispasmodic and stress relieving properties. The fertile soil found in the    northern region is most suitable for growing peppermint. Farmers grow peppermint mainly for essential oil, but they are able to supplement their income by harvesting a second cut that is unsuitable for essential oil. The fresh leaves are harvested during or just before full bloom (summer months -July in most areas of US). A couple of months later (during early autumn), many farmers can normally harvest a second cut, and this second cut is solely intended for fresh or dried material.
